Australia and New Zealand

1980 marked the beginning of international business development, when Lou and Diane partnered with Denis Horgan to create TPI - Australia. This office does business throughout Australasia. The Pacific Institute's first foreign expression of the curriculum was produced in Australia in 1982. Over the years, Australasia's client list has included: Telstra, largest telecommunications organization in Australasia; Lottery Board; Coles Supermarkets; Kodak; Hallmark; the University of Notre Dame of Australia; the Education Department of Western Australia; Kiwi Brands Australasia, Ltd.; Victoria's Ambulance Service; Naval Support Command in New Zealand; ABN Amro and ANZ Banks; Television Corporation of Singapore; and Modern Terminals Ltd., Hong Kong.

United Kingdom

Expansion across the Atlantic Ocean began in 1981, under the direction of Mr. David Tate, in The Pacific Institute's office in London. Since that time, business in the United Kingdom has grown exponentially. The London office managed by Neil Stracker, has done exceptional work with community building throughout the UK, partnering corporate clients with communities in need. They will soon be partnering with UNICEF in India.

Of special note is the work The Pacific Institute has done in Northern Ireland. Working with government agencies, community groups, and "influencers" on all sides of the conflict, The Pacific Institute has been able to assist the parties concerned in finding common ground and common language. Because of the long-standing "conflict culture" that has afflicted several generations, complete peace may be a way off. At least now, there is hope.

TPI - UK clients include: SmithKline Beecham Corporation, pharmaceuticals (England); 3M Corporation (England); Coca-Cola (Hungary); Jabil Circuit, high-tech (Scotland); Northern Telecom, telecommunications (Northern Ireland); Citibank; AOC, petroleum (Scotland); Smith & Nephew, pharmaceuticals (UK and USA); Phillips Petroleum (Norway); CORUS (formerly British Steel); Brown and Root: Halliburton (UK and Algeria); Bank of Scotland; Canada Life - Ireland; Scottish Power and Utilities (England and Scotland); Her Majesty's Prison at Brixton; Manchester United football team; Kent TEC (England); and 40% of the educational districts throughout the United Kingdom.

South Africa

The Pacific Institute's first office in South Africa opened in 1986 under the direction of Eric and Tessa Felton. Currently managed by Sam Alexander, TPI South Africa is creating tremendous success in the world's most famous emerging democracy. Operating in a nation where the gulf between the "haves" and the "have nots" is as wide as the continent itself, TPI South Africa is bridging that gulf by pairing up their corporate clients with the uneducated and unemployed. "Grassroots" is attempting to break the institutional welfare culture that crippled South Africa under apartheid.

Of significant interest is the work done in the black townships of Alexandria and Middleburg. In 1991 and 1992, the townships of Middleburg and Alexandria were involved in what Brian Wegerle describes as "low-intensity civil war." Violence and anger spilled over everywhere. 300-400 killings a year were the norm. Facilitating Investment in Excellence to the 28 stakeholder groups in Alexandria began in July of 1992. Five months later the program went to the first 300 citizens; then, on to the next 3,000. January 1993 reflected a dramatic result: not one single person was killed. For 13 consecutive months, not one person was killed in Alexandria.

In 1993, the year before South Africa's first ever general election, while political violence wracked townships across the entire country, Alexandria was the only one to break the trend. Violence not only dropped, it stabilized - and in one month - to zero. The common language, the common goals and vision facilitated by Investment in Excellence are credited as significant reasons behind the transformation.

Using South Africa as a jumping off point, TPI South Africa is looking north to the balance of the continent. "There is tremendous need here, and we have a lot of work to do. However, it is, perhaps, the most important work a human being can do," says Lou Tice.

TPI South Africa's clients through the years include: Spoornet, the national railway system; Old Mutual, the largest insurer in South Africa; SAPREF (Shell and BP Southern Africa; SASOL Oil (South Africa and USA); Divpac, a packaging company; Correctional Services, South Africa's federal prison system; Nedcor Bank; Liberty Life and Southern Life; as well as Atomic Energy Corporation and Eskom, and international utility. Of special note is the work done with Kim Carter, one of the world's top five women triathletes.

Canada

The Pacific Institute's first permanent offices in Canada opened in 1988. Since that time, business as grown to encompass British Columbia to New Brunswick, the Northwest Territories to Ontario. Education initiatives involve colleges and universities, career colleges, community colleges, elementary and secondary schools both public and private. Corporate clients include:Concentra Financial, Credit Union Central, Ministry of Forest, SaskTel; Canada Life Assurance Company; Crown Investments Corporation of Saskatchewan. Provincial and local government agencies employ the curriculum, as do numerous correctional facilities.

Middle East

The Pacific Institute's Investment in ExcellenceŽ curriculum has been used by the Royal Saudi Arabian Air Force; Aramco Oil; and Green Crescent Hospitals.

China

Development of The Pacific Institute's offices in China began in 1994, under the management of Wan Su Huber. Currently, we are represented in The Peoples Republic of China through our office in Shanghai. Wan Su has focused her recent work with the German company BASF, which has 2,000 employees in China, with programs in English and Mandarin; and the training centers of the Personal Board of China. Work continues with Volkswagen, Xerox and Coca Cola.

Through our business relationships in the United Kingdom and Australia, we have expanded on our work in China into Hong Kong, with the Strategic Thinking Group and Modern Terminals.

Japan

TPI - Japan began its operations in 1995. Since then, more than 80 clients have become involved in implementing the curriculum. Those clients include: Tokyo Computer Services (TCS), a high-tech firm; CAPCOM, high-tech entertainment; AFLAC - Japan; Meruko K.K., hardware manufacturer; Japan Family IAG; Japan National Defense Force; Shidax; Samson Corporation, with over 130 beauty salons; Boze-Bon Bonheur; and Mitsubishi Heavy Industry Corporation. TPI - Japan hosted The Pacific Institute's International Conference in 2001, in Gifu, Japan.

Central and South America

Central America has become a focus point for The Pacific Institute, especially Guatemala since the signing of the peace accords. Lou Tice worked with President Arzu and his cabinet, as well as the new military and police. In a surprise move, the military asked Lou to work with the former guerillas - the military's former enemies - to build a foundation for discussion between the two groups. Then-First Lady Patricia Arzu was a keynote speaker at the 1997 Global Conference.

In 2006, The Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) contracted with The Institute to create a teacher-training program to train 10,000 first and second grade teachers. With a 40% dropout rate after the first grade Guatemala has renewed this contract for an additional 10,000 teachers..

Asia

The Pacific Institute's Investment in Excellence curriculum expanded into Vientian, Laos and Phnom Penh, Cambodia courtesy of Telstra's large operation. Valuable insight was garnered when it was discovered that IIE complemented some Buddhist beliefs. In Jakarta, Indonesia, Coca Cola has been extremely valuable in the development of IIE in both the Indonesian Bahasa and Hungarian languages. Other clients include: McDonald's Corporation in Hong Kong; World Vision (Bangladesh); Imation (Singapore); Bangkok Bank of Commerce; Prudential Insurance Corporation (Thailand); and the Broadcasting Corporation of Singapore, where the curriculum is delivered in both English and Mandarin.
